The (brief) return of the Industrial Placement Students 2014

On Wednesday 12 March 2014, the undergraduate students in construction (BSc Construction Project Management and BSc QS and Commercial Management) who are on placement at the moment paid a visit to the Department to share their experiences so far with staff and second year students (who will be going on placement later this year). The presentations took place in the Chakrabarti Room in the new John Henry Brookes Building.

As well as taking photos I stayed to listen to some of the presentations and it was great to see how enthusiastic the students were about their work and and also how it had (in some cases) changed their ideas for their future career. So, is the industrial placement year a good idea? Yes. More from the students who have been on placement here.

And I'll just run through those benefits again:
  • Early exposure to the industry
  • Practical experience
  • Course subjects are put into context
  • Paid employment during the placement year
  • Potential sponsorship of final year
  • An opportunity to gain more understanding of future career pathways
  • Adds value to the final year of study
  • Experienced graduates are in demand.
